'Forever Red', a second-generation offspring of 'MacLise' and 'Raspberry Glow', is blessed with the tight buds of the former and the blazing red color of the latter. The buds develop about a week after native laurel and never fully open while maintaining their radiant color and compact form for at least two weeks after other Mountain Laurels have finished blooming for the season.

Popular in an ensemble with rhododendrons and azaleas, 'Forever Red' grows up to in 2½ feet in height and width, making it adaptable for a wide variety of uses, including borders, cottage gardens, woodlands areas and naturalized areas. The unopened buds appear in clusters, covering the dense shrub with beauty.

Preferring part shade and moist, acidic well-drained soil, 'Forever Red' can tolerate various light conditions. A Kalmia, the cultivar is toxic, thus dangerous to livestock and pets. Mulch is a valuable addition for retaining moisture and keeping root zones cool. Raised plantings promote improved drainage.
