Plant Patent Applied For. Just when we think there can be nothing new for this glorious family, Buddleia surprises us with 'Miss Ruby'! This very compact, well-branched, ultra-beautiful new Butterfly Bush sports giant racemes of fuchsia-pink with hints of purple. Neon-bright, irresistible to butterflies and bees, and borne along 8- to 10-inch spikes, there is nothing shy about the exciting blooms of 'Miss Ruby'.
In bud these blooms look somewhat darker, their grape-purple exteriors revealing no hint of the vivid color within. As they open, they reveal large florets that crowd along the flowerspike, both brighter and more abundant than ever before! Expect them to begin in midsummer and continue through mid-fall, delighting butterflies and bees as well as filling the garden with their sweet scent.
'Miss Ruby' is compact and bushy at 4 to 5 feet high and 3 to 4 feet wide, with better branching than many Buddleia. Small enough for a container, it makes a huge impact in the border, so that even a small planting is an instant focal point over two seasons. The foliage is deep green and elegantly pointed, handsome even without its giant wands of brightest fuchsia.
Give this Buddleia well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine. It can take a wide range of soils once established, and tolerates heat, humidity, and drought very well, though the best flowering will always occur with adequate watering. A magnificent addition to any garden, 'Miss Ruby' is an absolute necessity! Zones 5-9.
