Plant Patent Applied For. Cultivar name: 'WEKcobeju'. If you add only one Rose to the garden this season — a terrible thought! — make it Cinco de Mayo™, the absolutely unique new floribunda from Tom Carruth. Redolent of fresh-cut apples, flowering in great profusion over a long season, and utterly gorgeous, it stands out in garden or container. And it's disease resistant and vigorous, too! No wonder it won a 2009 All America Rose Selection!
The blooms are beautifully curled and ruffled, unfurling in layers around a merry yellow center. Wonderfully fragrant, it is their color that is the true breeding breakthrough, for each bloom is colored a slightly different shade of smoky lavender/sunset rose/orange red. Measuring 3 1/2 inches wide and numbering 20 to 25 petals, these blooms are held in giant clusters, often sporting five or six distinctly different looks!
The bloom clusters are held on 10- to 15-inch stems, so a single snip brings you a bouquet of indoor fragrance and color. Yet they also hold well on the plant, brightening the garden with an entirely new shade of beautiful!
Cinco de Mayo™ reaches about 3 1/2 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It was bred by master plantsman (and multiple AARS winner) Tom Carruth from a cross of R. 'Tospy Turvy' x R. 'Julia Child', so it comes by its beauty honestly. Flowering generously in several waves, it simply cannot be equalled for hot, one-of-a-kind color. Excellent in hot, humid cliamtes where some roses struggle! Zones 6-9.
