Here is a delightful ornamental Orange — evergreen, bushy, but naturally dwarf, it's just made for containers which can be brought to a frost-free location for winter or even grown indoors year-round in a bright, sunny spot. No matter where you live, you will enjoy the heavenly fragrance and decorative small fruit of this delightful little tree, which begins blooming at just 2 years old.
'Calamondin' is a cross between Sour Mandarin Orange and a Kumquat. It sets flowers year-round, very sweetly scented and pure white. They in turn become small, very attractive, but quite sour fruits, which have great staying power on the tree. You won't believe how many fruit this nearly thornless tree sets, nor how it persists in blooming and fruiting year-round. Very showy, it reaches 12 to 20 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide if unpruned, but may be kept much smaller if desired.
For best results, remove the young fruit the first year, so the tree can concentrate its energy on strengthening the trunk and branching out. Keep it well-watered and fertilized. Zones 9-11 in the garden; everywhere else in containers.
