Lamium 'Ghost' is a silvery groundcover that beautifully contrasts green hues in the shade garden. This large variety dwarfs other lamiums, standing 10 to 14 inches high and 12 to 24 inches across, creating a billowy cloud of silver for the garden. Its leaves measure a good 1½ inches long, as opposed to the ½ to ¾ inches of other varieties. In spring, 'Ghost' sports clusters of large, bright purple flowers that produce a striking contrast to the foliage. This deer- and rabbit-resistant plant is most compact if grown in well-drained, evenly moist soil. Although it can handle drier areas, this may cause it to open up somewhat. It handles part shade to full sun, brightening any shady spot, even under trees. Lamium is evergreen in mild regions and herbaceous in cooler areas. Wherever it is grown, a spring shearing will stimulate healthy, new growth, and it can easily be divided in either spring or early fall. It nicely disguises dying bulb foliage and makes an excellent weed-smothering groundcover. Zones 3-8.
