A distinctively different Sedum, 'Striatum' delights with delicate needle-like leaves, bold fall color, and bright blooms over a long summer season. It makes lovely edging, perks up containers, and looks terrific in the sunny border.
The foliage is fine and very profuse, each leaf just an inch long and no more than 1/8-inch wide and thick. Colored a silvery purplish-brown, it offers good contrast in the rock garden, accent planting, and sunny border. In early and midsummer it is topped by masses of bright yellow blooms, flattopped and irresistible to butterflies and bees. And in autumn the leaves turn a rich, deep shade of red, while the final blooms, having dried on the plant, attract feasting songbirds and persist into winter.
Like all Sedum, 'Striatum' is very adaptable and easy to grow. It tolerates heat, humidity, drought, cold, and poor soil, and needs very little attention from you. Find a special place in the garden for it this season. Zones 5-9.
