A delightfully slow-growing, distinctively-shaped dwarf Hinoki Falsecypress, 'Coralliformis' will become one of your favorite plants for garden or container if you find a prominent position for it in a small-scale landscape. Just a few feet high and wide at maturity, this evergreen conifer charms with new branchlets of bright coral-orange and thread-like foliage of blue-green.This very slow grower eventually reaches 4 to 6 feet high and 3 to 5 feet wide, its rich foliage sometimes acquiring bronzy hues in autumn. But it must take second place to the branching, which is often colored a bright coral-orange when new and is always interesting -- contorted, irregular, even intertwined. No two trees will be just alike, and may in fact have very different looks depending on the growth of the branches. The general silhouette should be vaguely rounded.
Perfect for containers, 'Coralliformis' also has sufficient presence to justify a position in the garden. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil and prefers full sun in all but the northernmost climates. It actually likes humidity, and needs only protection from strong wind to thrive for many years. Zones 4-8.
