For a long season of colorful bloomspikes, butterflies, bees, and compliments, rely on this super long-blooming Speedwell! You just can't beat it for large blooms on small plants that spread up to 1 feet wide! The blooms are a rich rosy-pink and begin appearing in early summer on spikes that can reach 6 inches high. Very showy, they just keep coming all summer and right through fall, never ceasing until the first frost turns them away. Talk about a long season of color -- this plant is in bloom longer than it's out!
Just 6 inches high when not in bloom, 'Giles van Hees' spreads rapidly but keeps its neat, trim look no matter what the weather chooses to do. A fine cover-up for spring bulbs, it also makes an ideal edging for walkways, a front-of-the-border standout, and a cheery container subject. In the sunny to lightly shaded garden, plant it in front of everything from Roses (it hides their bare "legs" very nicely!) to Verbascum.
Space these plants about 12 to 15 inches apart and let them fill in. Best in moist, well-drained soil, but tolerant of dry soils as well. Zones 4-8.
