The perfect conifer for any light from nearly full sun to deep shade, this Japanese Plum Yew is not a true Yew at all, but a far more gardenworthy tree ready to make an impression in any landscape. Reaching only 8 to 10 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide at maturity, it is ideal for containers, accent plantings, and the border. The new foliage is chartreuse on this upright, slender tree, turning to darker green as the temperatures warm. Needle-like and glossy, it really stands out handsomely. Left alone by pests and diseases, this tree always looks its best, even in heat, humidity, and (once established) drought. Few trees can match its easy appeal.
Hardy to -20 degrees F, it needs no pruning, adding about 6 inches of growth each year. This is a good selection for formal settings, but it is also content in the informal border or casual accent planting. Highly recommended for its compact size, attractive foliage, and ease of culture. Zones 6-9.
