This rebloomer received a Bronze Medal at Plantarium.
Plant Patent #17,012. Cultivar name: 'Cleminov 51'

All Clematis are somewhat adaptable to different uses, but Sapphire® Indigo is absolutely a unique variety, its habit trainable into almost any shape and form you desire! A lovely purple-flowered cultivar blessed with an abundance of blooms, this interspecific hybrid fits almost any garden space, and looks great doing it!

Bred from the C. montana var rubens cultivar 'Olga' and the large-flowered 'The President,' Sapphire® Indigo offers deeply saturated purple-striped buds that open to nearly black blooms, first in early summer, then again in late summer or early fall. The flowers are large, with widely-spaced, rippled petals scored with darker purple markings up the center and a large, wonderfully frilly creamy-yellow eye. They are a beautiful sight, but not the most amazing thing about this Clematis. That would have to be the habit.

Naturally twining, Sapphire® Indigo will not climb unless you train it to. It forms a ball-shaped habit about 2½ feet high and wide, or will trail from a hanging basket or tall flowerpot. Use it as a groundcover anywhere, a foreground planting in the border, a climber (with supports to guide it) in tall containers, or a trailer anywhere. Pruning Group III. Zones 5-9.
