No sunny flower border is complete without splendid 'Apricot Sprite', a long-blooming treasure filled with fragrance, soft color, and interesting texture. Its bicolor blooms of peachy apricot flute outwards on long, slender stems, attracting butterflies as well as hummingbirds, and the fresh anise scent of the grayish-green foliage intensifies in the summer heat. A splendid perennial!
Just 2 feet high (in bloom) and somewhat less wide, this is an erect, bushy plant with dozens of flowering stems. They begin setting blooms in early summer and continue well into late summer in most climates, especially if the first flowers are cut promptly. Although each bloom is tiny, the effect of dozens on every stalk is tremendous. And they make nice cut flowers, sharing their scent with less fortunate members of the vase.
Content in well-drained, enriched garden soil, this North American native is pest and disease resistant, its powerful scent keeping nibbling creatures from rabbits to deer at bay. Keep the soil moist for best flowering, and add compost every spring to enrich its nutrients, but other than that, 'Apricot Sprite' is fuss free. A hardworking, delightful little perennial that every garden deserves. Zones 6-9.
