Nonstop flowers for 5 months or more! That's what this amazing everblooming cultivar delivers, year after year. It doesn't rebloom, because it never pauses. Those big snowballs of white-centered blue or rosy-pink (depending on soil pH) just won't quit until frost.
'Todi' is remarkable for its color patterning as well as its extraordinary flowering season. These big mophead blooms are starred with a white center that extends into the base of each petal, creating a bicolored effect that stands out from a distance and is especially ornamental in indoor arrangements (fresh or dried). Like most others, the blooms will be blue in acidic soils, a shade of pink in alkaline, but this particular "pink" is actually a red-influenced deep rose, very unusual in the Hydrangea family. If your soil usually produces blue flowers, you might want to try 'Todi' in a large container amended with lime, just to witness the distinctive rosy-red color.
This shrub reaches 4 to 5 feet high and wide, a good size for the foundation, a flowering hedge, or the border. It is not only everblooming but very, very floriferous, so plan to cut plenty of blooms for bouquets while still keeping the shrub covered in color! More cold hardy than you would expect from its zone 6 limit, it is a good choice for northern gardens where shorter-season Hydrangea often flower only for a few weeks, when the weather is sufficiently warm. Do try this outstanding everbloomer this season; it never disappoints. Zones 6-9.
