You just can't beat this dense, mounding shrub for 3 seasons of colorful interest! Its arching boughs are covered in rich, deep-green foliage, which reach down the ground and often root as they touch soil. In spring, it comes alive with pink buds that open to pink-blushed white flowers held close against the reddish-purple stems. In late summer, hundreds of glossy crimson berries bring in the birds and persist well into winter. And in fall, its foliage color takes on a wonderful mix of gold, bronze, scarlet, and plum.
At 2 to 3 feet tall and spreading to a width of 5 to 6 feet, it's superb as a foundation specimen, groundcover, or low hedge. It's also ideal for containers, where its arching habit can be enjoyed as it cascades over the container's edges and down to the ground. Easily grown in almost any soil in sun or partial shade (the latter best in warmer areas), it is tolerant of salt-spray and thrives in coastal areas. Zones 5-8.
