Plant Patent #13,282. These charming blooms are a favorite in any setting, making 'Pantaloons' as suitable for a container as for the sunny to partly shaded border. The double blooms, with their unusual "hose in hose" form and soft lilac tones, arise in great clusters on vigorous plants, sweetly fragrant and as attractive in the vase as they are in the garden.
The two-inch blooms are long, bell-shaped, and nicely ruffled at the tips, like a Victorian undergarment! The inner petals hang about 3/4-inch below the outer, creating a showiness unlike that of other Campanulas. This is a C. punctata hybrid with vigorous growth and a very abundant flowering ability, blooming for many weeks in early summer.
Give 'Pantaloons' rich, well-worked soil with excellent drainage and plenty of moisture. Its sage-green foliage reaches 4 to 5 inches long, soft and slightly notched. This keeps the plant attractive even out of bloom. Hummingbirds are drawn to the blooms, while deer find the plant unappetizing ? an ideal combination!
When in bloom, 'Pantaloons' reaches 28 inches high and 15 inches wide. Without its long, heavily laden bloomstalks, it is about a foot high. Plant it in great groups for a stunning early-summer show! Zones 5-9.
