Extend your Camellia season by several months with 'April Remembered', a lovely semi-double variety from Camellia Forest Nursery of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Cold hardy to negative 5 degrees F, it begins flowering late in winter and continues all the way through spring! And such flowers these are -- softly shaded from rosy pink to cream, semi-double, and fully 4 inches across. They arise very, very abundantly on this vigorous shrub, lasting long after other Camellias have packed up for the season.
'April Remembered' reaches about 6 to 8 feet high and wide, a splendid size for a perimeter planting, screen or barrier, or back-of-the-border knockout. It is evergreen and very dense, never looking "threadbare" like some older varieties can. A C. japonica hybrid arising from crosses of C. 'Berenice Boddy' x 'Dr. Tinsley,' is rugged, long-blooming, and very reliable. Its variable color comes from the influence of the old Chinese species C. saluensis, and its red hues from C. reticulata, and the cold hardiness reflects the presence of C. oleifera and C. cuspidata in its parentage. You will find it fast-growing, exceptionally resilient in the face of rough winter weather, and heavily floriferous over a long, late season.
'April Remembered' is an Ice Angels® Camellia, one of the fine series bred for greater cold hardiness and extended flowering. A full hardiness zone more cold tolerant than older Camellias, it is vigorous and tirelessly floriferous. And if you would like more Ice Angels® for your garden, do consider the elegant columnar 'Winter's Snowman'. Zones 6-10.
