Berries the Size of Nickels!
A Northern Highbush with robust flavor!
The biggest, most delicious berries can be yours every summer with this adaptable, easy-to-grow Northern Highbush! Blueberry Darrow sets masses of berries the size of nickels -- and they have a sweet, robust flavor to match their large size. If you live in hardiness zones 4-7, this is the Blueberry you MUST try! The show begins in spring, when this upright shrub is covered in tiny white blooms. These give way to berries that mature late in the season, extending your Blueberry crop by several weeks if you plant Darrow among early- and mid-season varieties. The berries are huge, slightly flattened and bright blue, looking as good as they taste. And their flavor is the real magic. These berries have a robust, full-bodied, rich, juicy sweetness. They're terrific right off the bush, but also work well for canning, freezing, and jamming. Even if you don't have much empty garden space left, you can find room for Darrow. It's self-pollinating, so you need only plant a single bush. It thrives in full sun and acidic soil well enriched with humus. Make sure the drainage is good, and you're off and running! Darrow is a Northern Highbush variety, so it will flourish in gardens from the far north all the way through zone 7. A classic variety, it was named for Bill Darrow, a pioneer in developing highbush blueberries back in the 1950's. Darrow's Green Mountain Orchards helped make Putney, Vermont, the blueberry capital of the state. So when you harvest your yummy Darrow blueberries, you're continuing a tradition of great growing! Space the bushes about 3 feet apart for dense coverage. Zones 4-7.
