Cool down all those hot pinks and reds with airy plumes of pure white, set atop finely-divided, bright green leaves! Developed at Bressingham Gardens in England, this is an entirely new color, and one designed to emphasize its neighbors rich tones as well as its own pure, clean whiteness. The 15-inch foliage is topped in midsummer by numerous 2-foot flowerheads.

Astilbe 'Purple Lance'

'Purple Lance' -- This Wayside Original Introduction offers towering 12- to 15-inch plumes above ferny 3- to 4-foot foliage. The blooms are a rich rosy-purple, darkening as they mature, so that a large planting in full bloom is a study of color from lilac to deepest maroon! Very floriferous and tolerant of dry conditions, it begins in midsummer and continues into fall. The dried flowerspikes are superb everlastings.

PP#16,451. The closest yet to a blue Astilbe! Its lavender-pink blooms are overlaid with a powder-blue sheen, and are large, long-lasting, and very weather-tolerant, thanks to A. chinensis heritage. Far more tolerant of heat, humidity, and sun exposure than many other Astilbes, it sets 10-inch-long, 5-inch-wide plumes all summer long atop plants 32 inches high and 30 inches wide.
