Yellow Foliage from Spring through Fall
Perfect for groundcover, edging, and containers.
Plant Patent #10,865 Impossible to overlook and too beautiful to do without, 'Gold Bullion' sports chartreuse to gold foliage from spring through fall, gleaming from the garden floor in sunny to partially shaded spots. Topped by cornflower-blue blooms over a long season (and inclined to repeat generously all summer), this low-growing perennial is a low-maintenance delight as groundcover, accent, and edging. The foliage is large and showy, with leaves reaching up to 7 inches long. The best leaf coloration is achieved in full sun, but 'Gold Bullion' may appreciate some afternoon or dappled shade in the southern and southwestern most portion of its hardiness range. These leaves will NOT green out in summer heat, and they withstand extreme weather very well. What an improvement over other yellow-leaved types! The blooms of 'Gold Bullion' resemble thistles, but sport a bright, clear shade of blue that is hard to find in the garden and very highly prized for fresh or dried indoor arrangements. The heaviest show is in late spring and early summer, but this plant will toss up encores intermittently all summer, esepcially if well-fed. Very showy. 'Gold Bullion' spreads by underground rhizomes, but it is not an aggressive neighbor in the border, and is never invasive. Give it a bit of space to stretch its legs and it will repay you with years of very abundant, carefree color. Zones 3-8.
