An Entirely New Color Scheme for a Long-Blooming Favorite!
A lighter, daintier bloom, but with the same terrific staying power as other Cinquefoils!
The cheeriest Cinquefoil (Potentilla) yet, Hopwood's debuts a whole new look! The blooms are apricot-rose, with a ring of white marks and a bold red eye. They stand up and out beautifully from the large, deep green foliage, which is neatly serrated (somewhat like strawberry leaves) on tidy plants just 20 inches tall and up to 2 feet wide. A reliable summer bloomer in the sunny garden, Hopwood's Cinquefoil is a charming little plant you won't want to miss. The shape of these 1 1/2-inch blooms is almost as interesting as the color scheme. They look like scalloped discs, thanks to overlapping, heart-shaped petals that stand out nicely against the bold foliage. Bloom is heaviest in early to midsummer, then continues dependably for the entire season. If Cinquefoil had a watchword, it would probably be "moderation." This is a plant that flourishes in temperate climates, avoiding extremes of heat and cold. The plant itself is a neat mound that never becomes rangy, and the blooms are very reliable. Ideal for formal plantings because of its dependable size and bloom, it is also at home in the rock garden, the come-as-you-are cottage garden, and any sunny perennial bed or border. Most Cinquefoils offer rather intensely-colored, dark blooms, but Hopwood's is a refreshing change. Set Hopwood's Cinquefoil in moist, well-drained soil, spacing plants about 2 feet apart. Best flowering is in full sun. Zones 4-7.
