A Tricolored English Primrose

The ideal cut Primrose for buttonieres and nosegays, this English Primrose surprises with black-petaled blooms picoteed in white and starred with a wide gold center. One of the new 'Lace' series, 'Silver Lace Black' is a dramatic tricolored cultivar in a very small, neat package!

Just 12 inches high and wide, this plant sets very large, tongue-shaped green foliage held in a central rosette low to the ground. The blooms arise in great clusters well above the leaves, their petals as tidily spaced as the spokes on a bicycle. Ideal for up-close enjoyment in containers, they also fit well at the front of the shade border, along pathways, and in other high-traffic areas where they will be admired by all who pass.

This cultivar comes from a meadowland species of Primula native to Europe, and is part of the Elatior group. It thrives in part shade and rich, well-drained soil, flowering from mid- through late spring. Reliable and utterly unique in the garden, this Primula is a welcome addition to any landscape. Zones 4-8.
