The Most Floriferous and Longest-Blooming

Expect these Large Bicolor Blooms to Continue Well into Autumn

Plant Patent 17,800; PVR. Not only are these blooms larger than others, they are also more profuse and arise over a longer season! 'Cloudy' is far and away the most floriferous Monkshood, continuing its bloom show well into autumn on compact but very well-branched plants. It even offers a new color combination for the family!

The hooded blooms are white with strong brushstrokes of blue at the base and tips of each petal, creating an effect that really does resemble clouds scudding across the sky. They crowd along slender but very sturdy stems that point straight up, crowning the dark green foliage with bold flags of white and azure. In bloom this plant reaches 18 to 24 inches high.

The flowers begin in late summer, just when the garden needs a fresh injection of color, and continue well into fall. Most Aconitums finish in late summer; 'Cloudy' is just gearing up for its lush autumn bloom. These flowers are suitable for cutting (use gloves, as all parts of the plant are poisonous), and hold up well in the garden.

'Cloudy' is an A. carmichaelii type, with a very compact foliage habit (up to 18 inches wide) and floriferous nature. It is quite long-lived, and of course is untouched by deer, rabbits, and other nibbling pests. A good choie for the shade border, it is also a fine perimeter planting, deterring animals who might consider eating their way into the garden! Zones 5-8.
