This Dwarf is Longer-blooming and More Floriferous
Even the foliage is improved, for more vigorous growth!
Here is the Agapanthus we've all been waiting for -- dwarf, ceaselessly floriferous, and longer-blooming. Baby Pete™ eliminates the one part of Agapanthus that many of us deplore: those long flowerstems that set the blooms high above the foliage. And because it doesn't set seed, it devotes all its time to flowering, bringing you more blooms. The foliage is larger and darker green than others, which gives the plant greater vigor, leading to a longer bloom season. Everything on this new Australian introduction combines to create the perfect Agapanthus, no matter how large your landscape or how far north you live. Just 9 inches high and 6 to 9 inches wide, Baby Pete™ is a true dwarf, suitable for smaller containers than all others, and showing to great effect in small groupings as well as large plantings. Because it's so portable, it's easy to grow north of its zone 6 hardiness range. Just enjoy it outdoors from spring through fall, then bring it in for winter! But the real beauty of this plant is the blooms. "Baby blue" striped in darker blue, they appear profusely just above the long, elegant sword-like leaves. Lovely for cutting, they are irresistibly handsome on the plant, remaining for many weeks. If you have grown Agapanthus before, you will be amazed by the bud count and bloom strength of Baby Pete™. If you're new to Agapanthus growing, we're afraid that Baby Pete™ will spoil you for all others! This plant thrives in full sunshine and well-drained, enriched soil. It is poisonous, so pests large and small give it a wide berth. In the garden, it makes a fine foreground planting to Agapanthus 'Storm Cloud,' as well as part of a succession planting that might include null41137">Hardy Garden Phlox directly after Baby Pete's™ blooms pass. (Its strappy leaves make the perfect cover-up for leggy Phlox, too!). Do try this exciting dwarf this season. You will find it a stellar performer throughout its long life. Zones 6-9.
