The Biggest and Most Dramatic!
Huge leaves of green are widely lobed and striped in black!
Plant Patent #15,528. PVR Candy Striper is determined to be the standout of the shade border, with enormous black-striped leaves and large, conical blooms that open from rich pink to snowy white. It's ideal for the shade border or accent plantings, offering bold color, sweet fragrance, and ease of care. The foliage is deeply cut into 7 to 9 lobes, each boasting a dramatic black stripe down the center. Evergreen in mild climates, it's a terrific contrast to the broader leaves of Hosta, the lacy fronds of Ferns, and the rounder foliage of Heuchera and Heucherella. Forming a mounded plant about 10 inches high (when not in bloom) and 16 inches wide, Candy Striper would be spectacular even if it never set flowers! But it does, and the results are magnificent. In late spring, numerous tall, elegant bloomstalks pop up above the foliage, each boasting a 4-inch conical cluster of pink buds. The buds open gradually from the bottom into starry white blooms, creating a lovely two-tone effect that makes the garden look a bit different every day for weeks on end. The flowers are subtly scented and very long-lasting, perfect for cutting or for garden enjoyment. Candy Striper is among the largest Foamflower we've grown, and certainly one of the most beautiful. It's easy to care for in full to partial shade, asking only well-drained soil and adequate moisture during its growth season. Strong and largely maintenance-free once established, it's bound to become a focal point of your garden! Zones 4-9.
