Ebony Blooms for Garden and Vase

Blooms generously over 3 months or more.

Such a deep shade of violet they appear black, the flowers on this Aquilegia are stunning even from a distance. Equally handsome as cutflowers or in the garden, 'Black Barlow' is utterly unique. The blooms look like tiny dahlias, many-layered and suffused with color. They arise on long, slender stems on branching plants that begin flowering before most perennials have woken from their winter sleep. One of the famous Barlow series, this is a tried-and-true garden favorite!

'Black Barlow' was bred specially for cutting, and its blooms are a glorious feature in any indoor arrangement. Just an inch across, they stand out nonetheless, their vibrant color and formal shape always distinctive. You will have many dozen to choose from, too, for this perennial blooms from early spring into the first weeks of summer in most climates!

A vigorous plant, 'Black Barlow' reaches 3 to 3 1/2 feet wide (in bloom) and about 18 inches wide. It thrives best in partial shade, but tolerates more sun than many others. Find a place front and center for this long-blooming, unique plant -- and be sure to let the final blooms remain on the plant until they dry out completely, their seeds scattering. They will reseed themselves many times over this way, increasing your garden beauty every year!

The Barlow series also includes 'Blue Barlow,' and if you love dark color in garden and vase, you must try the two together. A stunning combination! Zones 3-8.
