Big Double Blooms of Purest White
Expect the flowers to last several months, drying to a papery texture.
This is the Hellebore many of us have dreamed of but never really expected to see: a strong solid color, fully double, oversized, and very abundant. Developed in Tasmania, it is well-suited to American gardens, and should become the focal point of your Hellebore display for countless seasons to come. These flowers begin in early spring in most climates, a few weeks after many other Hellebores have already made their debut. Measuring 3 to 3 1/2 inches wide, they are unbelievably frilly, holding their layers of petals wide open around a large pale green center. Lovely for cutting, they appear in huge numbers all over this quite compact plant. And they remain for 8 to 12 weeks, letting you simply revel in their presence. 'Mrs. Betty Ranicar' reaches just a foot high and about 18 inches wide, but it packs a tremendous impact into that small size. The large toothed leaves are evergreen, looking good even in the dead of winter, and they are left alone by all pests, so they keep their handsome appearance. Well-branched and very, very vigorous, this plant grows and spreads quickly, which is a good thing, because once you have seen these blooms, you will only want more. Developed by John Dudley, 'Mrs. Betty Ranicar' makes a fine addition to the Hellebore display, especially striking alongside the single solid colors of the Lady series -- 'Red Lady and 'Blue Lady' most dramatically! This is a highly dependable, long-lived perennial, impervious to stress from heat, cold, humidity, and even (once established) drought. We highly recommend this exciting breeding breakthrough. Zones 5-8.
