Compact Stems Never Need Staking
Wind and rain won't rattle these big blooms!
Plant Patent 18,643. At last, a solution to the Poppy problem in the windy or rainy spring garden: shorter, stronger stems! 'White Ruffles' is a Dutch introduction standing only 16 inches high, yet it sports the same giant 4- to 5-inch flowers you see on Oriental Poppies twice its height. Watch it shake off rough weather without any staking or tying! These blooms are pure white, with very deeply serrated, frizzly petals surrounding a large black central spot. Breathtaking for garden or vase, they are long-stemmed -- just not nearly AS long-stemmed as their 3-foot cousins! You get the same rich color, plenty of stem length, and no worry about the first spring storm beheading all the Poppies! Bred by plantsman Herbert Ousdhoorn, 'White Ruffles' is ready to move to the forefront of the sunny perennial border. Place it before taller Poppies to show off its goes-with-anything color, or let it enjoy the company of other sun-lovers from Anthemis to Coreopsis. It flowers in late spring and early summer, and performs best in rich, well-drained soil receiving full sun and allowed to dry out a bit between waterings. The perfect cut-flower just got a little easier with stake-free 'White Ruffles'! Zones 3-7.
