Soft Blue-and-Pink Color for 5 Months or More!
Exceptionally long-blooming -- butterflies can't stay away!
I'm delighted to see Scabiosa finally coming into prominence in the sunny summer garden. This exceptionally long-blooming perennial has long deserved more widespread use, and with lovely new varieties such as Deep Waters to select, gardeners can design a colorful display that will bloom for 5 months or more in most climates. The flowers measure 2 to 3 inches wide, with petals of soft lavender-blue surrounding a large central boss of pink anthers and creamy white. An unusual combination of colors, these blooms complement other summer-blooming perennials beautifully. They arise profusely on clumping plants just 18 to 24 inches tall and 24 inches wide, filling the garden with butterfly- and bee-attracting color over a very, very long season. This Scabiosa is native to Russia and Southwest Asia, and favors cool to temperate climates in this country. It demonstrates excellent cold-hardiness, and grows readily in garden or container. Use it on the patio, in the border, or wherever you need a swathe of dependable, very long-lasting color. Space these platns about 2 feet apart for solid coverage. Zones 3-7.
