Blooms and Berries on a Super-Compact Shrub!

Spectacular scarlet and golden fall foliage!

Plant Patent Applied For. Cultivar: 'Christom'.

The show begins in spring, with masses of pure white blooms borne in 5-inch clusters that bring in butterflies to dine on sweet nectar. These are followed by berries of brightest blue, nestled among dark, shiny green foliage. In fall, the leaves glow scarlet and gold. And when they pass, the remaining berries dot the bleak winter landscape with cheery azure. Expect plenty of songbirds to visit the garden in fall and winter -- they find these berries irresistible!

Best of all, Blue Muffin™ is just a third the size of most Arrowwood Viburnums, reaching about 4 feet tall and 4 feet wide. This compact growth makes it much friendlier in the garden setting -- in fact, it's ideal as a low hedge, foundation planting, or back of the border standout. Of course, you may want to feature it as a specimen or accent planting to show off its dense, rounded, multi-stemmed habit.

Native to the eastern United States (where Indians used its wood to make arrows, as you might suspect from its common name!), Blue Muffin™ is hardy just about anywhere and quite resistant to heat, humidity, drought, and cold. It doesn't mind damp soil (provided the drainage is adequate), but fares well in drier conditions, too. This is truly a rough-and-ready, go-anywhere shrub, deserving of a fine place in your landscape!

Plant this Viburnum in full sun or partial shade, spacing the young shrubs 3 feet apart. It grows quickly, reaching its mature size within 5 years. Hardy in zones 3-9.
