Lemon-Lime Foliage and Masses of Blooms!
Heavy-blooming yet very compact, Chardonnay Pearls adds lots of color to small spaces.
Plant Patent #16,098. Cultivar name: Duncan. Its fragrant white blooms make Chardonnay Pearls™ irresistible in spring and early summer, but it's the bold lime-yellow foliage that keeps it attractive season after season. A compact, heavy-blooming, very attractive little shrub, Chardonnay Pearls™ is the perfect addition to your perennial or shrub border, not to mention containers in full sun or partial shade. The show begins in spring, when the new foliage unfurls a very bright chartreuse-gold, each leaf with neatly serrated edges. The buds arise in mid-spring, large, perfectly round, and resembling huge pearls held on long, cascading branches. In late spring and early summer, the buds burst open, revealing fragrant starry blooms of pure white. What a display! The flowers are a magnet for butterflies, but even after bloomtime, Chardonnay Pearls™ remains showy with its burn-resistant yellow foliage and neat, pest-resistant habit. Just 3 to 4 feet high and wide in garden or container, it thrives in any good garden soil and blooms the very first year. And it keeps its golden tones until late fall! This Deutzia is a delight for any size garden, and a special treat for restricted spaces and container settings, where traditional Deutzias are a bit too large. Discover its beauties this season! Zones 5-7.
