The Best Variegated Euonymus for Vigor and Color Strength

A sport of (and great improvement over) E. 'Emerald 'n Gold'

Cultivar name: 'Roemertwo'

Gold Splash® is hardly the first variegated Euonymus, but it is undoubtedly the best. Its large, rounded, lightly rippled leaves are generously edged in creamy yellow from spring to fall. Then in winter, the variegation acquires red tones, keeping this compact shrub colorful all season. Unlike previous varieties, the variegation is quite stable, refusing to green out in excessive heat or sun.

Just 18 to 24 inches high and 2 to 4 feet wide, this sport of E. 'Emerald 'n Gold' is wonderfully cold-hardy, disease-resistant, and adaptable to sun or shade. It offers insignificant blooms which are followed by showy yellow fruits with orange seeds, a lovely sight in the autumn landscape. Prune it in late fall to just the size you desire and use it as a low hedge, a container subject, a border standout, or even in a foundation accent. Its most striking variegation arises in full sun, but it is tolerant of more shade than most other Euonymus cultivars.

Cold-hardy to -15 degrees F, this mounding shrub thrives in all soils except poorly drained, wet ones. You will find it vigorous, stable, and beautiful year-round. Zones 5-9.
