More Flowers and Stronger Growth than Other Yellow-Leafs!
A tremendous improvement over Caryopteris Worcester Blue in flower color, vigor, and bloom strength.
Plant Patent Applied For. CBR# 2316. Cultivar name: 'Jason.' There have been yellow-leafed Caryopterises before, but none with the garden vigor, flower power, and deep blue color of Sunshine Blue®. The rich golden foliage, amethyst-blue blooms in tall spikes, and bushy, well-branched habit make Sunshine Blue® the best way to brighten the sunny garden in late summer and fall. This shrub leafs out bright gold in spring, and keeps its color right through the worst summer heat. The elegantly pointed, toothy leaves are so stylish that Sunshine Blue® would be a fine choice for the sunny shrub border even if it didn't bloom! But bloom it does, and profusely, beginning in the drab late-summer days when other perennials are flowering their last and the annuals have blown. The flowers continue right into fall -- bold spikes of rich blue up to 6 inches long that really stand out against their background of gold. The unusual leaf color and exceptionally rich shade of blue make Sunshine Blue® beautiful, but the ultra-vigorous growth habit is what really endears this shrub to gardeners. Unlike older varieties, Sunshine Blue® needs no coaxing to quickly form a bushy, well-branched clump 30 inches tall and 3 feet wide. Impervious to heat, cold, and poor soil, once established in your garden it is quite low maintenance. And the growth is so lush, with far more flower spikes than other yellow-leafs. This English variety was bred by noted plantsman Peter Champion, and is a striking improvement over older yellow-leafed types such as 'Worcester Gold.' We have grown both varieties, and the contrast IS stunning -- Sunshine Blue® is so vigorous, easy-care, and heavy-blooming that it scarcely resembles its older cousin! Zones 5-8.
