Hakonechloa macra 'Nicolas' PP#19,898
Cooler weather brings brighter colors!
Its colors perfectly matching the autumnal palette, this dwarf Hakone Grass offers brilliant color for the shade. Its autumn hues are spectacular, becoming more intense as the weather grows colder!
'Nicolas' is just 10 inches high and 16 inches wide, with solid green, arching foliage in spring and summer. But as soon as the weather cools in fall, the leaves turn orange and red, remaining for many weeks and growing even brighter as the temperature drops.
'Nicolas' may remind you of 'Beni-kaze' with its red tones and fountainous habit. It is much smaller than 'Beni-kaze,' and has more orange in its fall coloration. The two make an excellent pair!
From its rich green tones in spring and summer to its brilliant autumn show, 'Nicolas' is a fine performer for the shade. Use it as edging, in accent and large plantings, and in containers. Give it a try this season. Zones 5-9.
