Symbol Mean?
What garden cannot use another carefree, long-blooming, thoroughly beautiful flowering perennial? Red Jewel is a new variety of a native species that flowers heavily over a long season, stands up to deer and other nibbling marauders, and always looks great with very little attention on your part!

These bold daisies arise from midsummer into early fall on long, slender stems. Brick-red petals surround a darker center, attracting butterflies to alight. Deadhead the first blooms promptly and they will reappear even more abundantly as the season progresses!

Helenium is a sun-lover, and Red Jewel thrives in any well-drained soil. Pay it plenty of attention the first season to get it established, then let it go! It weaves its way into the border effortlessly, flower stems bobbing up among neighboring plants for a merry cottage garden effect. Its homespun beauty is as effective among large-flowered perennials as foliage plants and other standouts.

Heleniums are always a popular addition to the middle or back of sunny borders, and they make lovely cut-flowers. Once you get them in the vase and can examine them at close range, you notice that they aren't simply dark red daisies: the petals harbor a hint of blue, and may even display yellow on their tips. A miniature beauty!

Red Jewel reaches 2 to 3 feet tall and 1 to 2 feet wide in full sunshine. Sneak it into your sunny border this season! Zones 4-8.
