Compact enough for containers.

Wide creamy to yellow edges really outlines the blue tones beautifully.
Plant Patent #19,623. Plant Patent Applied For. A new blue Hosta with terrific sun tolerance and a compact, elegant form, 'Blue Ivory' is destined to become one of your favorites. These leaves, widely edged in creamy yellow, really accentuate the rich aquamarine tones at the center -- and those tones stay put, even in part sun or dappled shade!

Forming a densely layered mound 14 to 16 inches high and about 12 to 15 inches wide, 'Blue Ivory' offers long, teardrop-shaped leaves with nice quilting, even at a young age. Of course, as the plant matures this texturing becomes more intense, discouraging would-be nibbling slugs and snails. And the symmetrical scoring of the leaves stands in nice contrast with the spiky blue variegation at the center.

In early summer, dark purple blooms appear on long, slender stems from the center of the plant. Dangling several inches above the leaves, they do not add much ornamental value, and may be snipped for indoor arrangements or left alone. The foliage is the star of this display, and it remains colorfast right up until frost.

Like all Hostas,'Blue Ivory' is very long-lived and easy to grow, withstanding heat, humidity, cold, and even drought without damage. Divide it easily into new plants or let it age majestically, its foliage improving in substance and texture with each passing year. Zones 3-9.
