Description / Iris Jack Attack

One of the most dramatic Louisiana Iris cultivars we have ever grown, 'Jack Attack' is a sizzling-hot combination of deep wine-red and dazzling gold, with ruffles for added effect. Its very large blooms arise in late spring in most climates, setting a standard of excellence that few other Iris can match.

'Jack Attack' is a Louisiana Iris, reaching about 2 to 3 feet high and 1 to 2 feet wide, with dark green foliage that remains evergreen and always looks fresh and new. Its blooms attract butterflies and make excellent cutflowers, lasting well in the vase. Their jagged golden signals stand out brilliantly against the large, rather flattish claret falls, and when fully open the bloom reaches at least 4 inches wide. A splendid sight in garden or vase!

This native Iris naturalizes superbly, eventually forming large colonies of rich color. It needs consistently moist to wet soil, thriving even in poorly-drained settings such as bog gardens and waterside plantings. Very low maintenance, all it asks is relief from the afternoon sun in the hottest portions of its regions, plus constant moisture. Given these things, it will perform beautifully for many years!

If you like 'Jack Attack,' consider planting it alongside or in front of Japanese Iris, which is fond of the same conditions as Louisiana Irises and makes a perfect companion to 'Jack Attack.'

'Jack Attack' is the creation of breeder J. C. Taylor, and was introduced in 1993. Its parents are I. 'C'est Bonne' x 'Margaret Lee,' so it comes by its beauty, great flower size, and vigor honestly. Popular ever since its introduction, it is a fine addition to any garden. We give it our highest recommendation. Zones 5-9.
