Kalmia latifolia 'Pristine'
Evergreen foliage keeps this compact little shrub neat and tidy in the border.
'Pristine' is just 3 to 4 feet high and wide, with good branching and a high bud count. The new spring shoots are yellow-green, turning to richer shades by summer and keeping its color year-round. The buds are off-white and crimped, but open to magnificent blooms. Such a treat for the sunny to partly shaded garden!
Content in the same conditions Azaleas and Camellias like (rich, acidic soil), 'Pristine' was selected by the great plantsman Dr. Richard Jaynes of the University of Connecticut. (We also have him to thank for Kalmias 'Sarah' and 'Keepsake,' as well as Hamamelis 'Harvest Moon.') Unusually compact and free-flowering, it is a good companion to all neighboring colors. And being a native species, it is so easy to grow. You will love 'Pristine'! Zones 5-7.
