Kalmia 'Minuet'
Unbelievably floriferous!
Just 3 feet high and wide, this native shrub is ideal for the border, as edging, for accents, and in the woodland garden. It forms a plump, rounded plant, and in late spring is unbelievably floriferous. A Littleleaf Mountain Laurel, its neat foliage looks good even when the plant isn't in bloom. But the blooms are so profuse that when Minuet is in color, you can hardly see the leaves!
Happy in full sun in the north, dappled to half shade farther south, this shrub remains compact and dense, never growing rangy as larger Mountain Laurels often do. It's the perfect size for containers, where it can be moved front and center during its bloomtime to show off the masses and masses of saucer-like flowers to best effect!
Give 'Minuet' well-drained, rich soil and plenty of water, especially the first year. A hardy native plant, it is fairly untroubled by pests and diseases, and is a low-maintenance addition to any garden. Space shrubs about 3 to 3½ feet apart. Zones 4-9. One-quart container.
