Very tolerant of heat and drought once established in the garden.

Hardy through zone 4 in the north!
Far and away the cold-hardiest Kniphofia to date, this arresting multi-colored beauty keeps the sunny garden in magnificent warm tones for many weeks in mid- to late summer. Held above handsome dark blue-green foliage, the blooms open slowly in bold shades!

The slender, arching foliage of this plant is just 20 inches high and wide, an attractive mound that keeps the plant interesting both before and after bloomtime. From the center spring the thick, substantial 3- to 4-foot flowerstems, excellent for cutting and very sturdy. They are topped with densely-set, pendant tubular blooms that open from the bottom up, turning from chartreuse to yellow, orange, and finally scarlet, all with a bright yellow tip. Stunning!

Butterflies and hummingbirds delight in these nectar-filled blooms, adding their own gaudy colors to the already multi-hued show. Expect the flowers to last for several weeks in July and August, transforming the sunny garden at a time when many perennials are closing up shop for the season.

Once established, this plant tolerates both extreme heat and drought, and needs no shade. Nibbling creatures from deer to rabbits and rodents leave it alone, making it a good choice for meadow and open gardens. Easy and carefree, it deserves a place in every garden, along with its everblooming apricot cousin 'Echo Mango.' Zones 5-8.
