Tough, Disease-resistant Plants with Deep Red Color!

Late-summer blooms are long-lasting in garden or vase!
A lily with a story as wonderful as its huge, lightly fragrant, richly colored blooms! 'Uchida' was bred from wild lily species in Japan during the 1930s and 1940s, and remains one of the most highly decorated, beautiful, and disease-resistant of all lilies for the late-summer garden.

These flowers are simply breathtaking, rosy-crimson with a thin white edge and freckles of deep red. They have a subtle fragrance that won't overpower the vase, yet holds up nicely over the bloom's long life. The plant is vigorous and disease-free, reaching 4 feet high the first year, and magnificently increasing in size and bud count as it ages.

'Uchida' is often the last lily to bloom in the garden, providing an outstanding finale to the season. The downward-facing blooms are bold, dramatic, and so beautiful!

This lily was bred by a Japanese farmer named Hirotaka Uchida from wild species. He selected it for its exceptionally rich red tones and for its amazing disease resistance. After World War II, flower growing was discouraged in Japan in favor of edible crops, so Uchida and his son exported a few dozen of their (as yet unnamed) lily to the West, where it created a sensation. By 1950 it was recognized as among the very best species lilies for vigor and color, and in 1956 it was registered and named for its creator. Seven years later, it won a gold medal. Gardeners have been praising it for generations! Zones 3-8.
