Polygonum aubertii
Grows quickly and easily, and won't damage wood, shingles, or other climbing supports!
Silverlace or Fleece Vine (Polygonum aubertii) is a gardener's best friend, especially when you've got a lot of space to cover fast and you need something that will grow and bloom in both sun and shade. The species can become too invasive, but our special clone (a Dutch selection) is a bit more restrained in habit and far longer-blooming than others, making the most of this deciduous vine's ability to climb and cover fast.
Silverlace Vine reaches 12 to 15 feet long within a single season, and from midsummer until fall is covered with thousands of tiny 1/4-inch white flowers. The fully blooming vine is a spectacular sight indeed, especially when it is used to hide an unsightly garden feature. Within two years it will completely cover most supports -- arbors, large trellises, pergolas, and more!
Unlike many vines, Silverlace does not damage the surface to which it clings. You can safely let it climb wood or scramble across shingles without worry. Use it to cover that old garden shed (that's needed painting for so long!), transform a stump into a tower of flowers, or meander along a fence.
Our clone was selected from trials in Boskoop, Holland. For best flowering, give it full sun. However, it will grow and bloom in part shade as well, and it's not fussy at all about soil type. Easy, quick, and beautiful! Zones 4-9.
