Symbol Mean?
Each jagged palmate leaf of this spectacular perennial gleams bronze in spring, maturing to a deep red to purple with bronze highlights. White flowers borne on airy panicles 2 to 3 feet high seem to float above the 3-foot plant over a long season, but it is the foliage that really distinguishes this German selection.

Its name means "red leaf," and that's exactly what 'Rotlaub' delivers. The species offers colorful spring and fall foliage, but 'Rotlaub' holds its rich coppery-maroon tones right through the worst summer heat, particularly if planted in consistently moist to damp soil.

A bold textural accent for part shade, 'Rotlaub' is a terrific companion to Hosta and Astrantia. It also works well as a waterside or bog planting, outlasting all others in the family for hardiness. Expect it to reach 5 feet high and 3 feet wide in partial shade. Zones 5-9.
