If you're looking for an easy way to bring a bit of vertical beauty to your landscape, 'Vancouver Morning Mist' is ready to deliver! This gorgeous Clematis sets spectacular soft pink blooms from late spring through early fall on a semi-vigorous, well-branched vine that grows to a very manageable 6 to 8 feet high and 2 feet wide.

Great for novice and expert gardeners alike, it's a wonderful selection for patio containers and smaller gardens, although it's just as appealing in a larger area as well. The star-shaped blooms have buttery yellow anthers that perfectly complement the delicate shade of the petals. And the green foliage stays lovely and attractive throughout the season.

Relatively low maintenance, this Clematis is Type 2, meaning it blooms primarily on old wood, with a second flush later in the summer. It's twining and trailing habit makes it ideal for trellises, fences, mailboxes, and other smaller structures that could use a bit of dressing up. And you'll love that it brings in hummingbirds and beneficial bees. Its medium texture allows it to blend in easily in almost any garden setting, and if coupled with plants of a finer or courser texture, you can create truly standout display.

'Vancouver Morning Mist' prefers full to partial sun and performs best in average to evenly moist soils, but will not do well in standing water. It's a good idea to apply a thick layer of mulch around the roots in both summer and winter to conserve soil moisture and provide protection in cold areas. Zones 4-9.

I got this plant at a Walmart without a tag on it and no instructions. I didn't know what it was and no one else did either. I put it on my mailbox and BOY, OH BOY, it grew and grew and bloomed and bloomed. I got so many people stopping to look and admire it!! And, here is my question, I didn't know whether to bring it in or not and I DID NOT WANT IT TO DIE. -- and wanted it to keep blooming. I brought it in and set it in a sunny window and it still has blooms on it and I water it a little (not like outside). I'm not sure what to do now -- keep it inside and pray it won't die or take it back outside (it's very cold here now) And now you let me know what it is and how to take care of it == I'm ordering another one from you!! Please give me your opinion as what to do.

Planting:

Set out plants immediately upon receipt spacing widely to allow for ultimate growth and spread. A rich, loose, well-drained soil that has been enriched is ideal; soil should be porous to allow for free run of the roots.

The rule of thumb is that clematis prefer shade at the roots (this can be provided by low growing plants or a cooling mulch), and sun at the tops. For this reason they do well interplanted among trees and shrubs, through which they easily grow. When planting, set a stake next to the plant for support.

Maintenance:

Water during periods of drought. Do not be discouraged if top growth is slow to appear; the roots must establish themselves before top growth occurs. For pruning purposes, Clematis can be divided into 3 groups. The first group blooms in the spring from buds set the previous season. Prune, when needed, after bloom. The second group blooms in early summer on short stems that come from buds set the previous season.

In March, remove dead wood and cut the remaining stems back to a pair of strong buds. The third group blooms on new growth. Therefore, prune all stems back to 12 inches from the ground each year in March. We also recommend a winter mulch. They also respond well to a topdressing of well aged manure or rich compost, preferably applied twice a year.

A Tradition of Distinction

Since its founding in 1920, Wayside Gardens has brought the rarest and highest-quality plants to the garden market. Wayside was founded in 1920 by two acclaimed growers who came together to pursue their shared vision of marketing all high-end plants for the serious garden enthusiast. Originally located in Mentor, Ohio, Wayside Gardens swiftly grew a reputation for the highest-quality plants and the most sophisticated clientele. In 1975, Wayside was purchased by the Park Seed Company, and moved to Hodges, SC.  The company has flourished since then, growing to become an undisputed leader in rare and unique plant growing.

Unparalleled Selection

Wayside's horticulturists travel the world in search of new and unusual plant cultivars and proudly offer the garden industry’s most sophisticated selection of high quality and rare perennial plants, bulbs, trees, shrubs, roses, vines, and indoor plants. Beginning with ties to the Dutch family bulb business in Holland, our horticulturists have developed close relationships with perennial and bulb growers throughout the United States and Europe, providing access to many rare and unique garden treasures. Throughout our history we have had the pleasure of introducing numerous exotic foreign and domestic plant cultivars to the American garden market. The Wayside collection of new and exclusive plant products is so preeminent that the catalog has long been lauded in the industry and is even used as a reference work in horticultural schools.
