Cold Hardy to Zone 4 | Deer and Pest Resistant

Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit

Ajuga 'Catlin's Giant' is an evergreen perennial offering year-round interest. Creating a colorful carpet in spring, the plant rapidly covers the ground in whorls of blue flowers. The flower spikes grow up to 8 inches tall and are extremely attractive to bees.

An Ajuga reptans cultivar, commonly called bugleweed, Ajuga 'Catlin's Giant' is an herbaceous plant with a low growing, spreading habit of purplish bronze foliage that forms a dense, stoloniferous, spreading mat of lush, attractive rosettes. Primarily used as a groundcover and perfect for small spaces, bugleweed grows well in containers, mixed beds, borders, and rock gardens. Good for erosion control, bugleweed fills in barren areas, especially in shady areas where grass will not grow, and chokes out weeds.

Easy to grow and low maintenance, Ajuga 'Catlin's Giant' grows best in sunny to partly shady locations with humusy, moist, well-draining soil. Ajuga tolerates dry soils but does not tolerate wet, heavy soils. In hot, high humid locales, provide good air circulation to avoid problems with crown rot. Cut plants to the ground or mow on highest setting after flowering to remove spent flowers and rejuvenate the foliage. Divide clumps if overcrowding becomes a problem. Areas that provide at least 3 to 4 hours of sun a day produce the best foliage color. Ajuga is deer, rabbit, and black walnut resistant.
