Description / Aquilegia Artisian Blend Columbine

Aquilegia Artisian Blend contains 4 columbine varieties that are complimentary in color, height, and blooming time: Pink Barlow, Black Barlow, Blue Barlow, and Ruby Port. These columbines grow 12 to 36 inches tall and bloom in spring, producing nodding to outward-facing flowers. Borne on strong, straight stems rising above an attractive mound fern-like basal leaves, the rounded, spurless, fully double blooms attract pollinators, including butterflies and hummingbirds. The frilly flowers make excellent cuts for picture perfect spring bouquets and floral arrangements.

Artisian Blend contains Aquilegia vulgaris varieties, also known as columbines, crowfoots, or granny's bonnets. These cold-hardy, herbaceous perennials thrive in Zones 3-8 and provide a seamless transition between early spring bulbs and summer-blooming plants. Artisian Blend columbines are a must-have in a cutting garden or butterfly garden. Planted en masse, they also create captivating displays in borders, cottage gardens, rock gardens, woodland gardens, and shade gardens. They naturalize readily without being aggressive, making them perfect for naturalized settings, and they make a lovely ground cover after blooming. Note that their foliage will naturally die back as summer progresses.

Artisian Blend Columbine varieties are adaptable, naturally deer resistant, and simple to grow. They prefer sunny to partially shaded locations with average, medium moist, well-draining soil. Removing spent flower stalks encourages re-blooming.

In spring, plant Columbine roots 1½ to 2 inches deep, spacing them 12 to 18 inches apart for optimal growth.
