The USDA hardiness zones offer a guide to varieties that will grow well in certain climates. Each zone corresponds to the minimum winter temperatures experienced in a given area. Make sure that your hardiness zone lies within the zone compatibility range of this variety before ordering.

Unlike some columbines, this one flowers the first year. Its tall stalks support upward-facing, boldly bicolored blooms—indigo blue and white, a unique color for shade—high above the green foliage, giving this plant a light and airy appearance. For best color and performance, plant in full to part shade.

This plant grows easily and naturalizes readily in most regions, including coastal climates, since it's salt tolerant. It's a pollinator favorite, so plant it anywhere you want to attract beaucoos of butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds: in a patio container, in an eclectic cottage garden, or in a cutting garden—the flowers last up to 2 weeks in a vase.
