Asclepias (Milkweed)

Favorite of Butterflies, Bees and Wasps!

More commonly known as "Milkweed", Asclepias is named after Asclepius, the Green god of healing due to its use in many folk medicines. An important nectar source for butterflies, bees and wasps, Milkweed supplies nectar through five slits in each flower. Visiting pollinators fly off with pollen sacs in a unique form of pollination. Flowers vary widely in shape, size and color, depending on species.
