Bergenia (Pigsqueak)

Large, Leathery Leaves with Cone-Shaped, Pink Flowers!

Commonly known as "Pigsqueak", Bergenia are clump-forming evergreen perennials native to central Asia with large, leathery leaves with wavy or saw-toothed edges. Tolerant of extreme temperature ranges, Bergenia grow to 2½ feet in height and width. The big, glossy leaves turn red or bronze in the fall in cooler climates. The flowers bloom in a wide range of shades of pink. Growing best in shady areas, they grow slowly, using their leaves as food for the winter.
