Description
An heirloom bred in Holland and introduced in 1938, 'Mount Hood' is one of the glories of the early-spring daffodil garden. RHS Awarded, this large-flowered trumpet (Division I) variety offers lovely blooms that mature from cream to white. Compact, weather-resistant, and especially valuable for warm-climate gardens where many other varieties suffer, 'Mount Hood' deserves a place of honor in the sunny border.
'Mount Hood' reaches 15 to 17 inches tall, with flowers that can reach up to 4 inches wide. The perianth is ivory-white and the corona primrose-yellow to cream upon first opening, but as time passes, the cup bleaches to pure white -- a lovely effect in a large sun-and-shade planting, where some bulbs open slightly later than others, so that both colors are present at once!
It has been noted by generations of gardeners that 'Mount Hood' fares better in the south and west than many other daffodil varieties. The bulbs multiply readily everywhere, but seem less troubled by the shorter, warmer winters of the south and west than most others. Still, bury them deep if you live in a warm climate -- they need their "chill time"!
Rely on this heirloom favorite for cutflowers and container displays as well as garden groupings. 'Mount Hood' is long-lasting and dependable, a good choice for greeting spring with a grand flourish!
Easy to plant, carefree to maintain, and increasing in beauty each year, daffodils are a must-have in every garden. Nibbling animals leave them alone (the bulbs are poisonous), pests and diseases do not trouble them, and they multiply over time in sites where they are content. Even a modest planting this fall will spread into great drifts of color over time! Make 'Mount Hood' part of your permanent landscape; reserve your bulbs today. Plant about 5 bulbs per square foot. Zones 4-8. Pack of 10 bulbs.
