Description
The Beauty Ladies® line was developed to hold on to their flowers longer in cold weather. The spikes of tiny, bud-like, lavender to purple flowers on this heather last from late summer to late fall. To promote heavier bloom cycles, plant in full sun to part shade and prune after flowering or in early spring.
In the warmer summer months, the foliage is dark green, creating a nice complement to the purple flowers, but in the cooler fall and winter months, it becomes increasingly purple-toned too, producing a more analogous color scheme.
Heather prefers moist, cool climates and moist, well-drained soil; and given its preferred growing conditions, this evergreen shrub forms thick mats of foliage that are especially good for preventing erosion. It requires regular watering, but once established in the garden, it is drought resistant, good for rock gardens and containers.
Deer do not find this plant appealing, but pollinators do.
