Description / Campsis Indian Summer
Campsis radicans 'Indian Summer' is an ideal option for areas where a vigorous vine featuring joyful color and lush foliage is desired. Deer won't bother this North American native, and it thrives in poor soils, including clay. 'Indian Summer's' funnel-shaped flowers are soft yellow with orange centers and attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. Some varieties feature red or orange flowers.
'Indian Summer' is excellent for naturalizing over banks, fences, and outbuildings, yet can provide a formal display when trained over an arbor as a specimen planting. Its noninvasive properties make them welcome additions to any part of the garden. After their bloom time passes in mid-to-late summer, the flowers are replaced by showy seedpods. This vine grows up to 15' in sunny locations. Zones 4 to 9.
